How It Works: XL Screw Sand Washer Working Principle

The XL Series screw sand washer (spiral sand washer) delivers high-efficiency clay separation and material cleaning. It removes mud and impurities from aggregates through a 5-step spiral sand washing process:

1. Inclined Feeding & Slurry Formation:Raw sand and gravel enter the lower end of the trough. Concurrently, washing water is injected to submerge the material into a highly fluid sand-water slurry.

2. Helical Scrubbing & Impeller Action:The motor drives the screw shaft via the reduction gearbox. As the spiral liners turn, they push the sand upward along the inclined installation This mechanical action forces the sand particles to rub intensely, breaking apart sticky clay lumps.

3. Gravity Sedimentation:Heavy, high-grade sand grains sink to the bottom of the trough due to gravity, while lighter silt, organic matter, and waste materials float to the surface.

4. Overflow Discharge:The mud-laden slurry flows back toward the lower end into a specialized sedimentation tank. The waste continuously flows out through the adjustable overflow weir, preventing re-contamination.

5. Dewatering & Output:As the spiral blades lift the clean sand above the water level, excess moisture naturally drains back into the pool. This gravity-driven dewatering process ensures a low-moisture sand output at the discharge chute.

The lower bearing is constantly immersed in water and is a key area for maintenance. We use a special sealing structure and lubrication system; the seals must be checked regularly for integrity and lubricated with grease on time.

During the cleaning process, some extremely fine sand may be lost with the overflow. It is recommended to use it in conjunction with a fine sand recovery machine or dewatering screen to maximize the finished sand yield.

Compared to wheel-type washing machines, spiral sand washers require a more abundant water flow to remove a larger amount of mud, therefore water consumption is relatively higher, but the cleaning quality is more guaranteed.
