How It Works: XS Series Wheel Sand Washer Working Principle

1. Feeding & Submerging

The raw sand and gravel are fed into the washing tank. Simultaneously, water is pumped into the pool, submerging the material into a fluid sand-water slurry.

2. Impeller Rotation & Friction

The electric motor drives the impeller rotation via the reduction gearbox. As the large wheel buckets rotate and scoop up the sand, the particles rub intensely against each other, stripping away the surface clay and destroying the moisture vapor layer wrapping the sand.

3. Overflow & Impurity Separation

Clean rinsing water continuously flushes the sand in the buckets. The detached clay and fine impurities float to the surface and are discharged out through the overflow weir, while the heavy, clean sand remains in the buckets.

4. Gravity Dewatering & Discharge

As the wheel lifts the clean sand above the water level, excess water drains back into the tank through the polyurethane screen mesh. This gravity-driven dewatering process ensures low moisture output before the sand is discharged onto the product conveyor belt.

The equipment consists of an impeller, reducer, support frame, and water tank. The motor drives the large impeller to rotate slowly in the water tank via the reducer, while the sand tumbles and is washed by water inside the bucket.

The wheel sand washing machine has a simple structure, extremely low fine sand loss rate (due to the slow impeller speed), and the transmission parts are isolated from water and sand, resulting in a low failure rate and significant water and electricity savings.

It is suitable for scenarios with medium mud content and high requirements for the gradation of finished sand, such as river sand washing, construction sand making, and concrete mixing plant feeding.

The screen is a wear part, but we use high-strength manganese steel or polyurethane material, which has strong wear resistance. The screen is bolted, making replacement very convenient.

The impeller drive bearing assembly is completely isolated from water and the material being washed. This design effectively prevents the bearings from rusting or being damaged due to water immersion or sand contamination.

During the rotation and lifting of the impeller bucket, the sand undergoes a natural dehydration process. If extremely dry sand is required, it is recommended to use a high-frequency dewatering screen at the discharge end.

The main difference is in output. A single impeller bucket is suitable for small factories, while double or triple impeller buckets (such as the 2XS and 3XS series) significantly increase processing capacity and are suitable for large-scale sand and gravel production lines.

It is an energy-saving device. Due to the slow impeller speed and the operation through physical scooping, its energy consumption is typically only 50%-70% of that of a spiral type for the same processing capacity.
